Site 61 Guesthouse has 'private rooms'. It also offers budget-oriented, sociable accommodation in mixed-gendered dormitory rooms with volunteer staff. Dorm guests share a bathroom and lounge. Guests under 18 are not allowed in dorms, except for whole-hostel rentals. Guests cannot stay more than 14 consecutive nights in any 30-day period, or 48 nights in any 365-day period. Guests with service animals need to book a private room and notify the hostel in advance. Each upstairs room features a solid wood door and a ceiling fan.
Shared Kitchen
A fully-equipped shared kitchen is available for guests. Guests have access to a fridge, freezer, lockers for dry storage, plates, cups, mugs, bowls, utensils, basic seasonings, pots, pans, and small appliances such as a toaster, hot plate, toaster oven, and microwave. Guests can store dry food in kitchen lockers and keep dishes in personal containers. Guests must wash their own dishes and mark food items with their name, purchase date, and checkout date.
Leisure and Amenities
The hostel has a neighborhood bar. Guests can use laundry machines located upstairs ($1.00 per load for detergent, $1.00 for two dryer sheets). Free Wi-Fi is available. Security cameras watch public areas inside and outside the hostel. There are individual brew, pod-style coffee machines and a water kettle, two types of coffee, black tea, herbal tea, sugar, and non-dairy creamer. Each bathroom has a toilet, sink, and shower behind a lockable door, plus hand soap and single-use hand napkins. The hostel library features 'burning books' in front of the fireplace and sprinkler system artwork. Guests can see original hardware, including parts of the transom hardware. In the lobby, the wood floors have been in service for at least 100 years. In the lobby, the dark spots on the floors are from oxidized square, iron nails.
Location and Transport
Site 61 Guesthouse is located in Mid-City. It is near City Park, which features sports facilities, the New Orleans Botanical Garden, and boating on Big Lake. The bus stops at Canal Street/Jefferson Davis, about 8 blocks from the hostel. The Jefferson Parish airport bus (JET-E1-Downtown Route) fare from the airport is $2.00.
Services
Site 61 has self-check-in options and 24/7 building access. Guests help out with tasks such as putting out breakfast, cleaning, making beds, and planning events. Work exchange is available for a bed and daily breakfast. Volunteers gain hospitality experience and a flexible schedule to study or explore the city. There are four work exchange slots available. The property system administrators provide technical assistance and check accounts' activity to prevent fraudulent transactions.
